Rare Japanese Awaji Vase - Amphora Shape
In 42 years of passionately collecting Awaji Ware, I have only found two vases featuring these unusual and vivid colours.
The main glaze is a beautiful almost matte blue. I have to describe it because your screen might not show colour the same way as mine. It is the deepest, close to the horizon sky blue, with no yellow or purple tones.
The marks on the base, according to my research, indicate that the vase was made before 1922.
I can't find any imperfections. It has the signature hand-thrown Awaji style and the usual chips on the bottom of the base.
